Where has Justin Been in the Last Few Weeks?

Three Days in the Life of Justin James Jiron
Photo Essay of Deep Sea Fisheries

Saturday the 25th of June:  Justin came home from a one week experience with “Boy’s State” at the University of Oregon.  He was seriously beat and worn out.

Sunday the 26th of June:  Justin flew from Portland, Oregon to Anchorage, Alaska, then to King Salmon with his final destination to Big Creek on the coast of Bristol Bay.

His final destination was on a “Piper Cub”  to Big Creek.  He arrived at the Process Facility @ 9:55 PM the same day.

Big Creek Facility  “Remote” and far from civilization. Hiking, jogging or wandering outside the facility is not allowed because of Black & Brown Bears including Grizzlies and Polar Bears. The only transportation in or out is by airplane or boat.

Monday the 27th of June:  Monday and Justin's first day of “early rise” for the Egg Room Crew.   Note that Justin seems really weary and is not smiling like the others….The rest of the crew had already been working for a week and are all acclimated.  Justin is just catching up.  To the right of Justin in the picture is Hiroki, a Gresham friend.

First Day and the first ever experience with salmon roe, salmon roe, salmon roe, and more salmon roe in “The Egg Room”.

First Day and more salmon roe……….
Justin with Daniel, a Gresham friend. Daniel has posted some photographs and videos of the experience on "Facebook" prior to this post.

Note:  Depending on the fish runs and the legal season, this crew will be working from 3 to 6 weeks or longer and are expected to work up to 16 hours a day.  Because Justin is under 18 years of age he may only work 6 days a week.  His last comment to me was said jokingly.  When I asked about the food he said, “I have a feeling that it will be much better in a few days...by then I should get used to it".  He is doing well………..Take Care All, Ken
